Artists Experiment

Experimenting is a great way to try out new materials or mediums that students may not have used before; it can also offer an opportunity to try techniques that are unfamiliar. Artists experiment all the time - sometimes they are successful, sometimes they fail. However, in both of these instances there are opportunities for learning - especially in failure. This unit provides students with a chance to create an art piece that responds to the big idea of “Artists Experiment.” By working through the artistic thinking process, students will activate their creative thinking, problem solving, and reflect on their prior definition of what it truly means to “fail.”
