Meet Ms. K

RachelKorotkin

Born and raised in Michigan, I’ve traveled to various places to explore my curiosities and interests in education. While I began my studies in Florida, I have slowly made my way back to the Midwest finding new and exciting ways to enrich my pedagogy.

After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art and a Bachelor of Arts in Lighting Design for Theatre from the University of Miami in Florida, I entered the museum education field specializing in elementary to secondary museum education. I worked for a couple of years as a Museum Educator in various museums - from art museums to historic buildings to children’s museums.

I quickly realized that my favorite part of museum education revolved around interacting with students as they learned and explored. Knowing this, I pursued my Masters of Arts in Teaching focusing on Art Education from Tufts University graduating with honors in May 2017. While attending graduate school, I taught high school studio courses and worked as a long-term substitute at a middle school in the area.

I have taught at various schools in both Chicago and Boston, where I currently reside with my husband. While middle schoolers are my preferred age group, I have worked with students from the ages of 3 to 18. I currently teach at an all-boys, private school in the Boston area, but am looking forward to moving back to Chicago in June of 2024. In 2022, I received a graduate certificate from Johns Hopkins University in Mind, Brain, and Teaching which focused on the neuroscience of learning. I also received a graduate certificate from Harvard University through their Instructional Leadership Certificate program which focused on mentoring and assisting other teachers within the realm of education.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy aerial acrobatics, dancing, practicing yoga, reading, doing puzzles, watching Jeopardy, and listening to true crime podcasts.
